The Fracture Sounds team worked with composer Alexander Parsons to develop a set of tools and sounds that perfectly reflect his textured compositional approach. A trained violinist with a background in electronic music, this collection of solo strings, synthesizers, and unique performances showcases the full range of Alexander's musical style.

The solo strings in this library focus on long and short textures that can be used in combination to create tension and dynamics. Articulations are expanded by a new granularity engine that creates a wealth of possibilities, blurring the lines between acoustic and electronic performance. As in Zen: Meditations, this time, the Fracture Sounds team and Alexander Parsons have assembled 28 synthesizer sounds that can then be blended with thousands of combinations through the use of additional effects.

Trails is designed to give you maximum sonic exploration with minimal effort, so you can focus on creating music using an inspiring set of sounds.

Solo string textures
The main elements of this tonebank are solo violin and cello textures recorded by Alexander Parsons and his longtime collaborator and friend Joe Zeitlin. Eight of Alexander's favorite and most-used articulations were captured in the same dry studio in London that we used for Dan Keen's Petrichor soundbank.

The dry space makes it possible to use more effects in instrument presets and is also part of our new granularity engine that transforms sounds into mesmerizing textures with endless possibilities. Returning are the Lo-Fi and Delay effects we found in Hemisphere Ambient & Cinematic Guitars, which, when combined with Reverb and 16 unique Atmosphere Layers, can transform original acoustic recordings into dramatic undercurrents of fluctuating textures - -This is what Alexander calls Trails.

Our new granularity engine
Our newly designed Granularity Engine combines the knowledge and experience of the Fracture Sounds team with Alexander's approach to using granularity effects on modular devices to expand his sound palette and create something truly unique. The engine brings together a hand-picked selection of sounds from across the sound library, offering a number of control options, as well as the ability to simply randomize all of the parameters and let the instrument determine the direction of the sound itself.

Raw sounds can be inverted, mutated, and fine-tuned using controls on the interface, rendering the original source unrecognizable and producing the kind of randomness and inspiration that Alexander craves in his writing tools.

The Fracture Sounds team and Alexander Parsons have curated 57 presets as a starting point for newcomers to granular synthesis. These presets are also available in their basic form in the Lightweight folder for those who need more CPU efficiency.

Over the years, Alexander has collected many of his favorite analog synthesizers and modular effects units and offers a personal collection of samples inspired by those he has used in soundtracks over the years, combined with recordings at Press Play.

For maximum playability, we have placed the synthesizer samples in the Layer Blends engine, which was introduced in Zen: Meditations, where up to three synthesizer samples can be mixed and controlled using the modulation wheel. There are 28 unique synthesizer sounds in this library, offering 28, for a total of 546 possible blending options, which can then be further expanded with ADSR envelopes, filters and other effects in the interface.

Faulkner Dulcichord
One of the key tools in Alexander's arsenal is the Faulkner Dulcichord, a compact, single-string tabletop piano with a delicate, captivating tone. In addition to the effects that come with the solo string texture, the Dulcichord also features Broken Tuning, which transforms otherwise cleaned-up samples into a much older sound. Those familiar with our pianos will know about our Color and Timbre Shift controls, which can shift the instrument's tone into deeper or brighter spaces, and we've also included an Extended Range switch to go beyond the instrument's natural limitations.

He has worked on a number of television series for platforms such as Netflix, Amazon and Channel 4, including the acclaimed Grayson's Art Club (featuring artist Grayson Perry), and Black Power: A Story of British Resistance (Steve McQueen).

A trained violinist with a master's degree in composition, Alexander would go on to explore electronic music, eventually culminating in DJ sets in London and across Europe, which influences much of his work in media music today.

He continues to perform live on a regular basis, often on stage with collaborator Joe Zeitlin, a cellist who also appears on Trails.

FAULKNER DULCICHORD
A key tool in Alexander's arsenal is the Faulkner Dulcichord, a small single-stringed tabletop piano that has a delicate and enchanting tone.
