The Atelier Series Sasaki Trumpet is a legato trumpet library played by session musician and educator Mikio (Miki) Sasaki. Recorded at Orb Studios in Austin, Texas, this trumpet library was designed to create an instrument that is responsive, dynamic, and functional. To achieve this goal, all material was recorded in a dry studio space so that users could freely customize the sound before adding their favorite reverb effects.

One of the hallmarks of trumpet playing is the style and quality of vibrato. We asked Miki to play the vibrato in a way that would suit a variety of dynamic situations, and to record legato in an "impulsive" way, capturing transitions that are closer to the actual playing, and suitable for phrases that have real dynamic changes.

The intonation of brass instruments, especially the trumpet, tends to change depending on the strength, range, and difficulty of the passage. For this reason, two versions of each timbre are provided, giving the composer the option of retaining the natural internal tuning of the performance.

In addition, we recorded an emotionally charged cornet with a completely different legato playing style and vibrato, perfect for use in emotionally charged and movie soundtrack contexts.

Pro Tip:
The "Natural" timbre variant is ideal for solo parts that are not in the same register as the accompaniment. The "Tuning" variant is excellent for repeating melodic lines with other instruments in the same register. Be sure to try both options!

While we like the adjustable reverb chosen for this library, we recommend turning off the reverb and then processing the trumpet through your favorite reverb plug-in to blend it into your tracks and create a corresponding sense of presence and space. On most of the demonstration tracks (except the cornet), a small ambient room reverb of about 30% is mixed in, and this really brings the sound to life.

For added authenticity and fun, try quickly pushing the pitch wheel up a bit to mimic a natural pitch correction when playing a harder section.
