Samulnori is a type of Korean percussion music that has grown in popularity over the past few decades, both in Korea and abroad. The word "samulnori" ( ) can be divided into two parts - "samul" for "four things "and "nori" means "to play".
Samulnori ensembles usually consist of four main instruments: the Puk, the Janngu, the Jing, and the K'Kwaenggwari In a minimal ensemble, there is only one of each instrument, but sometimes you will see larger groups with four or more of each instrument. However, even in these larger groups, each instrument serves the same purpose. Each one represents an element of nature; Jing is wind, Janggu is rain, Puk is cloud, and K'kwaenggwari is lightning.
Samulnori originates from peasant music (nong-ak), which consists not only of music but also of dances celebrating the harvest season. The music is also derived from the shamanic tradition of utdari pungmul, which is played on these same instruments along with singing and wind instruments. In its modern incarnation, samulnori relies exclusively on the following four instruments, either in quartets or larger ensembles.

Also known as the "Buk", this is a low, barrel-shaped drum played with a single mallet. It is about 30 centimeters in diameter and is made of a hollowed-out piece of wood with leather strapped to the sides. It provides the bass pulse of the grou

K'KWAENGGWARI
A very small hand-held gong, held in the left hand and played on a small hard hitting gong. It is about 25 centimeters wide and made mainly of brass. The left hand is also used to wet the gong. The instrument leads the group and signals the musical transitions.
humanization
Samulnori Kontakt The instrument features the KSP Humanise control, which can be used to add random variations to the time, tempo, tuning and volume of each strike.
This makes it possible to load multiple instances of the same instrument playing the same MIDI pattern, and introduces the natural differences and organic feel of a human drummer into each instance. This makes creating lifelike ensemble percussion compositions very fast.
