The story behind HUMBOX

HumBox was discovered in the attic of an old farmhouse deep in the forests of northern Sweden, surrounded by the ruins of untouched artifacts. There are few records of it, but according to the villagers, in the 1960s it was owned by a woman named Berit Flemminqson, a very solitary person who kept to herself most of the time, and very few people knew anything about her private life.

Legend has it that Berit built the HumBox herself for the purpose of communicating with aliens through music, and she succeeded. Apparently, she amassed quite a fortune in a very short period of time, and she spent her days locked in a basement, which struck everyone as odd.

After engineers took it apart to analyze its components, they found nothing out of the ordinary. This has led speculators to believe that it possesses some sort of magical powers, and some believe that she may have been communicating with an even more mysterious creature.

A common misconception is that it's coming from a vocoder. A vocoder is cool too, but the sound is processed very differently. It mixes your voice signal (modulator) with a synthesizer (carrier), making it more difficult to produce a clear sound.

So how does Talkbox work?
The microphone takes the synthesizer signal (usually a sawtooth wave) and transmits it through an amplifier and compresses the actual physical sound through a tube inserted into the player's mouth. The synthesizer sound is actually transmitted into the mouth, then shaped by the player and recorded by the microphone.
