Sax Quest is Kontakt Player's unique sample library. Sublime, evolutionary and intense, it features abstract and randomized saxophone textures combined with a custom modular effects installation performed by master saxophonist and artist Jay Reynolds.

Designed to fill a gap in the virtual instrument market, the library features a very compelling and beautiful dark sound that is perfect for capturing the modern movie sound world that can be heard in the scores of Colin Stetson, Bobby Krlic, and Mica Levi, among others. Our carefully designed custom user interface is both intuitive and inspiring, allowing you to distort and shape the sound using filters, reverbs, distortion and more.

We've spent countless hours with saxophonist Jay Reynolds selecting some of the most interesting and creative saxophone playing techniques. Drawing inspiration from the sound worlds of artists such as Colin Stetson, Bobby Krlic and Mica Levi, we wanted to create a virtual instrument that exceeded the expectations of a saxophone library and explored limitless new territory.Jay is not only an accomplished saxophonist, but also an avid synthesizer and modular enthusiast. We realized that combining his love of saxophones with modular effects was a way to create sounds and textures that went far beyond what was possible with saxophones. We recorded the entire saxophone family, from baritone, tenor, alto to soprano, aiming to capture the nuance of Jay's performance and delivery while focusing on how it evolves and morphs with the help of modular effects.

The library was recorded under closed conditions, remotely from Jay's studio, using a range of high-end microphones, and later edited and mixed by Sonixinema's in-house engineers.Jay and our team collaborated heavily to ensure that the source material was as creative and playable as possible. For many of the patches in the library, we've put four saxophones on the keyboard to give you the widest possible range of playability.
