As a longtime SubMission Audio virtual bass fan, creative genius Nik Nocturnal asked for a customized virtual bass that would fit perfectly into his workflow, and we gladly obliged.

The NocturnalBass is a meticulously sampled virtual instrument modeled after the legendary Ernie Ball Music Man Stingray. This bass is a regular in the studio and is a perfect fit for Nik, an officially certified Ernie Ball endorser.

The Stingray is an extremely versatile instrument that is at home playing both punk and metalcore. Sampled in a quasi-J-Bass configuration, the NocturnalBass has an extremely distinctive and pleasing midrange character, as well as an almost unbelievable bottom end.

NocturnalBass is one of our personal favorites because it's so easy to use across a wide range of musical genres. This fits right in with Nik, who has built his social media empire precisely by reinventing genres in under 30 seconds.

The Tone

NocturnalBass was designed with the idea of providing you with sounds that work whether you're composing, demonstrating, pre-producing or preparing a piece for release. It comes with three versatile tones:

DI: The raw sound of the instrument captured directly through high-end recording hardware. Post-process like any other bass, using your favorite plug-ins, pedals or amps. This provides the ultimate in flexibility; mix bass tracks your way.

CLN: Enviable classic clean tones shaped by our custom impulses using legendary Ampeg Heritage 8×10 amps, captured through premium Neumann U47 and U87 microphones. The tone covers a wide range from funk to metal, and the 'Drive' control allows you to mix in distortion stages in parallel for classic rock bass tones.

DIST: If you believe that heavy bass tones should be concentrated in the midrange, then this is the ideal tone for you. Combining two amp stages, the DIST tone conveys an exceptionally rich midrange texture, providing the perfect glue between your bass and rhythm guitar. Like the CLN tone, it's shaped by high-end Ampeg and Neumann gear for a timeless sound.

As is our style, both tones are pre-mixed for your immediate creativity.

Humanized controls inject natural variation into playback for adjustable realism.
