Horror. Nightmares and nerve-wracking tension
Nordic Noir is a collection of dystopian, suspenseful, and dark sounds. You can easily create wonderful textures and atmospheres – precisely to evoke those dark and spooky emotions.
That’s what pulsed through our minds when we were asked to write the music for two scary TV movies. We didn’t just want to compose—we wanted to unleash something. Something that breathes. That scratches. That screams. That’s new!. So we built a horror machine Our eerie board.
We mounted screws, rusty springs, bent metal sheets, and long nails on a wooden board. Then we wired it with piezo pickups and ran the scratching, hammering, banging, and rubbing through a whole battalion of effects for days. The result wasn’t just sound. It was emotionally unstable electricity.
The result? Far beyond our expectations: Nordic Noir is no ordinary horror or suspense kit. It’s a living, breathing soundscape of dread. It doesn’t whisper. It growls. It doesn’t follow rules. It shatters them. This isn’t just a collection of creepy textures. A unique, untamed language of tension. Growling bass that breaks your spine. Subsonic rumbles from the edge of the void. ModWheel Dynamic Programming
Nordic Noir allows you to define all (!) parameters of slot volume and tune, as well as all master effects, via separate tables. These parameters can be individually adjusted by moving the ModWheel. This allows you to create highly complex and dynamic sound textures.

Can experiments become instruments?
Alium began with a search for the perfect grand piano to sample. After a session at Nottingham’s Albert Hall, I captured test recordings of the Steinway – plucking, pen-tapping, and striking strings. While not suited for a full-scale sampling project, these samples were too unique to gather digital dust.
So began a journey of discovery. The test recordings were reshaped and reimagined through analogue effects, taking the familiar into new sonic territories and celebrating the sounds of the unpolished and the unplanned. Alongside the Steinway samples, Alium now includes the rare, resonant tones of the Dulcitone, with plans to continue adding organic, expressive keyboard instruments.
Alium invites you to create music from the curious and the imperfect. Raw, organic, and full of character. Alium is for the explorers.
