The Chapman Stick looks like an instrument from the future, with a range and playability reminiscent of a piano, combined with the expressiveness and tone of a guitar/bass hybrid. The rocker is held vertically and played with both hands, using a technique called tapping. Rather than plucking or using a plectrum, tapping is the rapid pressing of the strings into the frets to sound the notes. This unique invention has a distinctive, harmonically rich sound that produces percussion-like breaks, shimmering chords, and butter-smooth melodies.
The Evolution 10 String Stick lets you experience this truly amazing sound virtually, carefully sampled to reproduce all the features of the original instrument.
The standard model Stick has 10 strings, divided into a set of 5 treble strings and 5 bass strings, making it playable over a range of 5 octaves. We sample each string individually, all the way down to the instrument's wide fretboard. The Evolution 10 String Stick automatically determines which strings and frets to use based on the adjustable position of your hands. You can also select the location of the split point between the treble and bass ranges on the keyboard. Automating such factors makes playing from a MIDI keyboard a breeze, while sounding natural and authentic.
We developed this library in collaboration with Rosewood Recording Company, one of Utah's most prestigious recording studios, whose owner and recording engineer, Guy Randle, deftly combined analog audio equipment to subtly shape and emphasize the rich tonal qualities of the instruments. The Evolution 10 String Stick includes recorded signals as well as enhanced signals that can be mixed to your taste.
We can't wait for you to explore all the features and presets included in the Evolution 10 String Stick and let its unique sound inspire your musical creations.
