Combination of sampling and modeling
We've been planning a horn project for a while now (our first recording was in 2012), but until now, a number of things have prevented us from doing so - namely, we wanted to avoid the need for too many key switches and instead be able to control the airflow.
Thanks to our recent work on hybrid techniques for mixing samples and modeling, we were able to overcome both problems and take advantage of the best of both worlds: impeccably authentic horn tones and a simple yet powerful way to play.
Following the original methodology of Dr. Giorgio Tommasini and Samplemodeling on harmonic alignment, we have developed our own methodology and call it HAT (Harmonic Alignment Technique). This technique allows us to accurately reproduce the evolution of timbre from very soft to very loud playing.
We found a way to combine these two techniques by using the sample as a sound source, while the rest utilized modeling techniques. This allows the V Horn to weigh in at only about 90Mb per instrument (including retina graphics and presets), sound truly like a real live horn instrument being recorded, despite all its flaws, and have a completely continuous response and incredible playability.
We feel confident in saying to us, and hopefully to your ears as well, that VHorns is the most realistic and easy-to-use VST available today.Below are some performances by real musicians, as well as content we recreated (and used for our demo) using VHorns.
SAMPLING MEETS MODELING, AGAIN
