The first step in the chain is usually compression, but with so many different types of compressors to choose from, which one is the perfect solution for your vocals? We created the Vocal Compressor to solve this problem by taking a transparent, balanced compression chain and adding subtle flavors, colors, and grit to make the vocals blend perfectly.
Three levels of compression deliver audio through three different types of compressors to moderate troublesome peaks, balance dynamics and add flavor saturation. Add select-through and color controls and a parallel compression option, and you have a versatile compression tool that's great for vocals but also works well with synths, bass, leads, and other audio.
peak value
The first step in the signal chain; the Peaks compressor removes amplitude spikes from the signal, making it sound smoother. It powerfully suppresses rogue dynamics in your sound and prepares the signal for the next stage. You only need to lower the threshold by a few dB to hear the actual effect, and it better be transparent.
equalization
This is a parallel compressor that maintains loud transients while making the softer parts of the audio louder. This results in a reduction of the overall dynamic range to make vocals sound better in the mix. Use the Mix and Compensation dials to set the balance between lightly compressed peak output and heavily compressed balanced processing of the same signal. Don't suppress the gain reduction, as this compressor needs a threshold of about 20dB to work. Keep lowering the threshold until things sound good.

The compressor features an integrated tape saturation curve that adds harmonics, grit, and flavor to your audio. Start subtly, then adjust the threshold until you can hear your voice so it's clearly over the top of your track.
Gates and colors
Eliminate unwanted and distracting pops, clicks and noises with the Gate dial. Use the Color slider to dial in frequency curves tailored specifically for vocal processing, making your vocal performance as professional as possible.
Bypass, Output and Main Mix
When combined with the output dial, the bypass control is smooth and as click and pop free as possible for unobstructed A/B testing. The option to mix the compressed signal with the original audio via the central Master mix ratio control allows you to reduce the compression ratio for parallel effects.
