Algonaut has announced the release of a massive update to its Atlas software designed to turn samples into music.

The Atlas 2 Drum Machine and Sample Manager brings new features such as a fast and powerful drum sequencer, a sample change/humanization engine, and an all-new Content Browser that makes managing and reassembling drum kits and sequencers easy. In addition, hundreds of small improvements have been made to every aspect of the original Atlas.

In particular, the drum sequencer was built from the ground up to be fast and flexible. The idea was to combine the workflow speed of a traditional step sequencer such as the much-loved FL Studio with a piano roll editor that offers extra flexibility when needed. Quickly record inspiration as it strikes, then fine-tune all the nuances that make the rhythm really come alive.

The new Content Browser works after you have a few beats. Easily bring in patterns or sounds from other beats, rework and remix them, and build a library that sounds like your own. Sometimes you just want to sit down and try to create song ideas straight away, and Atlas is now the quickest way to keep your own style.

At the beginning of 2020, I set a personal goal to create a beat every day during Atlas 2 development. Many test users did the same thing. The result was hundreds of major and minor improvements during the process.
