 Your Own Audio / Easily Create Custom WavetablesSerum has a built-in wavetable editor - you can create your own wavetables in a variety of ways. Import audio directly from an audio file - Serum has a variety of methods and options for analyzing audio and breaking it down into individual waveforms. You can of course import single-period wavetables, or you can import multiple wavetables at once (using the built-in sorting options or manual reordering). Morph between various wavetables using standard linear interpolation (crossfading) or via harmonic/spectral morphing. Draw directly on the waveform with optional grid size capture and various shape tools. Generate or modify waveforms using FFT (addition). Create or process waveforms using formula functions. Processing menu options allow you to perform other tasks as you wish, such as applying fades, crossfades, normalizing, exporting, and more.

 Ultra Clean Oscillator 
Wavetable playback requires digital resampling to play back different frequencies. Without special care and a lot of digital arithmetic, this process can produce audible artifacts. Artifacts mean that you are (possibly unknowingly) crowding your mix with unwanted tones/frequencies. Many popular wavetable synthesizers are surprisingly bad at suppressing artifacts - even at high quality settings, some produce artifacts as high as -36 dB to -60 dB (the difference in level between the artifacted fundamental waves), which is very audible and often suppresses the highest in the process audible frequencies are needed to try to suppress this unwanted sound. In Serum, the native mode (default) playback of the oscillator is run with ultra-high precision resampling, which produces surprisingly inaudible signal-to-noise ratios (e.g. -150 dB on a sawtooth wave played at 1 Khz on the 44100)! This requires a lot of computation, so Serum's oscillator playback has been aggressively optimized using the SSE2 instruction to achieve this high quality playback without hogging your CPU any more than typical (good quality) soft synths already do. load Serum and we think you'll be able to notice both the sounds you hear (solid highs, all the way flat to the limits of your hearing) as well as the sounds you don't hear (no unwanted mud or overlapping gibberish) - nice, clean sound).

 Modulation - works the way you want it to 
The modulation system allows drag-and-drop connections between the modulation source and target. Want the LFO to control filter cutoff? Simply drag the LFO header to the cutoff knob. This LFO->Filter connection will now also appear in Mod Matrix. In other words, you have two views/methods of creating and modifying modulation: sometimes the list is great, sometimes you just want to get the job done quickly and easily.

 Real-time wavetable operation 
In addition to working through a set of wavetables (up to 256 to form an oscillator), you can manipulate the waveforms themselves in a separate real-time process called Warp. This allows FM/AM/RM/Oscillator synchronization and many other ways to modify the waveform, including "remap" mode - a graphical editor for drawing your own custom table operations.

 Filter Type 
Serum includes all the filter types in LFOTool as well as some brand new ones. Flangers, phase shifters and comb filters, all of which provide critical tracking of the notes you play. Dual filter types let you control or change filter types. Get creative with atypical filter treatments (like downsampling) or unique filter types never before discovered (like the dirty-sounding French LPF).

 Built-in Effects Kit 
An effect rack with 10 effect modules lets you deliver sound all the way to the finish line in Serum. Effects can be reordered to any configuration you want. Almost any effect parameter can also be used as a modulation target. This is especially useful for monophonic synthesizer sounds. For example, apply LFO to control reverb size or dry/wet, or apply velocity to control the amount of distortion. Many of these effects and modes were built specifically for Serum, so there are many unique effects to choose from, such as Hyper, which simulates an (extra) amount of unison, or the Dual Waveformer, which allows for distortion, and you can distort the waveform between two separate ones.

 Advanced Unison
Serum lets you stack individual oscillators to use up to 16 voices. Each wavetable oscillator has many uniform advanced parameters. The Stack setting allows notes (e.g. octave scales) to be layered for a fuller sound with individual note presses. Use the Unison WT Pos setting to set homophonic sounds to have their unique waveforms at the same time, or use the Homophonic Warp control to skew them all differently. Each oscillator has a variety of Unison tuning modes, allowing you to get stacks of sounds blooming or swarming as you wish.
