Dual compression sections for unprecedented dynamic control
One of the main advantages of the Shadow Hills Mastering Compressor is the ability to process your signal using two-stage compression, which you can apply through either the Optical or Discrete sections - or both - for maximum musicality! In the optical section, you'll find traditional threshold and gain settings, as well as a two-stage release time similar to the LA-2A. Use it to easily shape your dynamic range and boost overall volume. In the VCA Discrete section, you'll have more precise control over the Ratio, Start and Release settings, so you can fine-tune the compression response to suit a wide range of material.

Switchable output transformers for a variety of tones
Three unique output transformers allow for the construction of additional tonal characteristics. Here you can switch between each transformer to easily change the tonal balance of the compressor. Choosing between steel, nickel, or iron will add some of the distinctive flavors commonly found in legendary consoles: the nickel transformer delivers smooth bass and polished highs that work well on more delicate, sparse recordings. The iron transformer has a more colorful sound, yet maintains pure high frequencies and slightly boosts low frequencies in the 100Hz range. It operates through a Class A output stage that applies only even harmonic distortion, giving you a very musical sound. Finally, the steel transformer has an extremely detailed and fast response, with a slight boost in the 40Hz range, resulting in stunning low frequencies.
