Spectrum analyzer with automatic equalizer and 31-band equalizer
The ThirtyOne MK2 is a plug-in that includes a spectrum analyzer and graphic equalizer, both with a standard 31-third octave.
This pair of tools is common in every rack of any live mixing console, as the final tool in the main bus, and for this reason we decided to recreate the behavior and specific time response of a very common Italian analog spectrum analyzer.
The equalizer is also inspired by the analog units, allowing the ThirtyOne to reproduce the feel of the master link you're used to.
Great care has been taken to reproduce the smooth illumination of LEDs driven by smoothly increasing currents, with each row of twelve LEDs passing through a 20dB/octave filter (as in the original hardware unit), whose response can be selected between 0.25, 1, or 4 seconds, giving you a view of the fast peak and average frequency levels.
Each bar LED can have a value of 1, 2, or 3 dB (same as the original hardware unit), and we've added a 6dB/LED option so that when the resolution is changed, the scale on the left side of the LED display is updated accordingly. We have also
A Maximum Peak Hold LED has been added for each band, which can be enabled or disabled, whereas the original unit did not have this feature. The maximum peak hold LEDs can be enabled or disabled for each band in the
Directly below the Spectrum Analyzer, we have placed 31 sliders that allow you to adjust the output and fix any specific resonances. Each slider drives a standard 1/3-octave second-order filter that can be adjusted from -15 to +15 dB, and you can also change the value for each band by entering that value in the box below each slider.
The equalizers have a very special feature called "Auto Equalize" which, when enabled, is used by the output of the spectrum analyzer to adjust the gain of each equalizer band so that the equalizers are automatically set to achieve maximum harmonic balance.
ThirtyOne MK2 offers three different "auto-equalization" algorithms: mean, median and lucky, the first two are based on some mathematical models, while the third one is a lucky mistake, we decided to keep it because it sounded good 😀 .
"Auto EQ" is tied to the frequency analyzer output, so changing the analysis speed affects the algorithm, using 0.25 seconds changes the EQ very quickly and allows you to track fast frequency peaks, while using the 4 second setting works more on averaging the frequency content. To
To adjust the Auto EQ output, you can use what we call a "Compensation Curve", which is an offset that is applied to each level of the Auto EQ calculation, so that if you think that the It is an offset applied to each level of the "Auto EQ" calculation, so if you think that the generated EQ curve is too extreme in some bands, you can correct it using the "Custom" setting of the Compensation Curve. If you find a compensation curve you like, you can export it and use the Load and Save buttons to load it into another project.
The generated EQ curve can be reduced or increased using the "EQ Amount" knob, which scales each gain calculated by the "Auto EQ" algorithm to a fixed value and allows you to increase or decrease the level of each band while maintaining the same ratio between them.

The equalizer has a very special feature called the "Auto EQ", when enabled the output of the spectrum analyzer is used to tune the gain for each of the EQ band allowing the equalizer to automatically set itself so that the maximum harmonic balance is achieved.

To tune the "Auto EQ" output you can use what we call a "compensation curve" which is an offset that it's applied to every level computed by the "Auto EQ", so if you think that the resulting eq curve it 's too extreme in some band you can correct it using the "custom" setting of the compensation curve. compensation curve that you like you can export it and then load it in other projects using the "load" and "save " buttons.
The resulting EQ curve can be decreased or increased using the "EQ Amount" knob that scales every gain computed by the "Auto EQ" algorithm by a fixed value and allows you to increase or reduce the level of each band while maintaining the same ratio between them.
